years ago my mum used to use wet rags somehow.
i think she used to take a strip and wind it around the hair then pin it to her head and let it stay that way overnight.

use curlers while your hair is wet and go to bed with them in. they are a lot cheaper than buying a curling iron and better for your hair. the other choice is to take pieces of fabric or ribbon you put them at the end of some hair and roll it around till it reaches the top of your head then tie it. these are old fashioned curlers. if you don't have time to let them sit over night you can also find something round like pencils or even your fingers work. you roll your hair around it and then hair spray it. they work really well.

here are some suggestions to get wavy/curly hair. i havent tried some of them, but i ve heard that they work-
curl with iron or rollers
put some hairspray in ur hair before going to bed and the tossing and moving will create random waves
braid ur hair and when u remove it there will be waves
put some defining product in ur hair and keep twirling it around ur finger. then, finger comb gently through to separate the waves
use sea salt spray or surf spray. sea salt will give really pretty beach waves
use mousse
scruch it with gel
get a perm for a more lasting solution
good luck!

You can use hot rollers. If you are looking not to purchase anything, you can roll your hair into circles and secure with bobby pins. Leave in for a couple of hours and you will get nice waves.

Put your hair in a bun. Or what about using rollers they have non heat ones. I always put my hair in a bun or a couple of buns to get those beautiful curls.

Wrap wet hair around your fingers and pin it down with a bobby pin. Or buy velcro rollers and use those.

heres what i do... wash your hair normally and brush it once, then leave it and brush when dry. if this doesn't work, there are several different kinds of hair curling shampoos at your local grocery stor. good luck!
