There are two main kinds of garlic. (Actually, there are three. The third kind, 'elephant garlic', Allium ampeloprasum, has absolutely enormous cloves, but has no garlic flavor worth mentioning.)

Allium ampeloprasum. Elephant Garlic is not a true garlic at all, but an enormous bulbing leek.

Elephant Garlic is milder compared to Regular Garlic.
It's flavor isn't as strong....

Regular garlic is a healthy pungent herb,well known and very popular. Elephant garlic is much larger,milder and more expensive and not a true garlic
