I wouldn't say I way alcoholic, maybe borderline.
I'm back at college and need to give it a rest after 12 years, so I'm going to try and stop for the whole month of November, what chance do you think I stand?

I think rehab would be a little harsh, us brits don't go to rehab until we've actually started to eat our own livers, with a nice chianti, of course

ur chance is as good as ur determination to do it. i thought i'd never quite smoking and here i am 3 months later and still smoke free. just take it one day at a time and when u think u want a drink then pick up a book or go for a run or trot or walk. maybe u can join a support club and whatever u do try and stay away from the party people and bars. just concentrate on ur goal and ur studies and what u want them to do for u. good luck.

If someone offered you a million pounds, I'd bet you could do it; it all depends on how motivated you are to do it. If you're just testing it to see if you can, with no big motivation, you'll probably give in at the first attractive opportunity.

People trying to quit on their own have about a 5% success rate.

Here's some practical tips on quitting or cutting down:

Attitude is a big part, and it sounds like you've got good motivators to keep dry. the other big big factor is support, so even though you don't think of yourself as alcoholic, AA will give you the support you need, and the help of others who've been there. Give it a try. Good luck.

Cold turkey is tough. Maybe you should just try and cut back. You know maybe a couple drinks on the weekend or one night a week you go out.

If you can't maybe you are and alcoholic and you should get some help. Not trying to sound mean just being truthful. Good luck though.

Depends on how dedicated you are to quiting...if you are serious about stopping then you need to stay away from the drinking temptations.
