Atheists like to contend that organized religion is the root of all problems today, and that only they are the enlightened 5% of the people. If that's true, how come atheists aren't doing anything about it? When was the last time someone knocked on your door and asked "Have you ever heard of this new sweeping sensation of thought known as SCIENCE!?" There are sociol movements to elimenate druck driving, gambling, abortion, drug use and fornication, but atheists don't seem bothered to make an organized resistance to organized religion.

Hah, that's a good one. Organized religion will never implode, just change its form. The number of athests has remained relatively constant over the years, as have the number of fortune tellers, physics, ect.

If we spent THIS life-time preparing our future generations for their lives on this earth, instead preparing THIS life-time for an After-life, we would have alot less problems in society and our world.

We see problems with Religion. People come to your door and "ANNOY" you with things that haven't been proven. It's really a waste of one's time. Why not do community service, or knock on the doors and say "Hey, we are building a house down the street for the less fortunate, would you like to come join us in doing good for the community?"

Arguing is not ineffective, it is how all scientific theories and principles are made. For a theory to be valid you have to PROVE it is, and you can't use your own theory to prove that your theory is right. But, that is how you prove your religious texts are all correct. Don't you see the error in that thinking? I am not trying to insult you I am asking you a question. But, you won't answer it because to do so will shake the foundation of your faith; too bad for your faith. If I find a principle that shakes my understanding of the world then I try to develop a theory that will explain the new information. We can't always do that. That's why Newtonian Physics and Quantum Physics don't agree on several basic issues. One day we will find out why, and then that will improve our understanding. But, again your religious book is static and it can never be improved. THAT'S WHY IT DOESN'T WORK AND SCIENCE DOES!

The fallacy you have used is called "Begging the Question" -- it's where you ask a question that already asserts a "fact" that not everyone agrees with....
I dont think it's laziness that keeps Atheists from knocking on your door. If you're a Christian and think Christ is the only way to Heaven, then you'd be overjoyed and driven to let everyone else know this. But many (not all) Atheists do not believe in an afterlife of Heaven and Hell. So whether or not you believe, we all end up in the same place....

it is not truly approximately being atheist or being christian. there are a lot of lazy Christians and frustrating working Atheists. although there are rationalization why you would be able to correctly be conscious Christians being harder workers. Christians have self belief in some thing they can't explicitly see or pay attention, yet they suspect in it besides. Any faith (inspite of religion) is a robust motivation, it must be a desire to "get into heaven", or it may in basic terms be your perception interior the divine. It creates objective and motivation in one's existence. Atheists tend to have a "it is the way it is" attitude. they could be greater pessimistic, and see no think approximately working so frustrating as quickly as all of us in basic terms die besides. to no longer say maximum atheists are depressed, yet while there is not any spirituality, one feels much less prompted. it is to no longer say all Christians are frustrating working and all Atheists are lazy. It in basic terms relies upon on your character. An useful man or woman has a tendency to be non secular. a pessimistic man or woman, no longer so non secular. technological know-how has proved that optimism ends up in frustrating artwork and fulfillment, and pessimism the different. yet many Atheists are useful.

Religions aren't the root of all problems, but they contribute to so many. Atheists are actually more generous then the average person. We just don't slap our religion on our buildings to show off how generous we are. And religions cause many of the problems they claim they are trying to help. They also invent problems that aren't really problems.

And science doesn't have to be advertised. It is so prevalent in everything everybody does. You wouldn't be able to pose your question without it.

What has religion contributed? Wars, repression, sexual anxiety, unwarranted feelings of guilt, terrorism of the worst kind, superstition, discouragement of free thought. They've contributed some dialog on morality, though that's really a mixed bag, and much of it they plagerized from earlier people.

What real technological contribution has religion given to society, besides the pope-mobile? None.

They have inspired some art, including some interesting architecture. However, I suspect that there's enough beauty in the world that there would be enough to be inspired by without any religious dogma.

Knocking on people's doors is not an effective way to change the opinion of the masses, unless your intention is to annoy them into submission.

Why do you label atheists as "lazy" when, rather than get up and do something about the world, you sit back and pray that something else will make it all better? And for the record, doorknocking to sell your religion is not counted as 'doing something about the world'

heh

1. organized religion is NOT the root of all problems. uneducated people interpreting the scripture of the religion and acting upon those interpretations is a cause of some (not all) problems today.

2. what do you propose we (atheists) do?

3. Science doesent need to be sold. if you cant understand it learn. if you have questions then ask a scientist. science doesent need to (or can be) forced on others.

4. im sure there are many of us who dont care about making an organized resistance against religion. religion has a wonderful way of making itself look stupid anyways. its just a matter of sitting back and watching it implode on itself. given enough time.

Atheism isn't a belief system like your religion. We don't need a supreme being to tell us what to think, we make our own decisions. As a result some of us support gambling, abortion, and fornication. Others are opposed. But the point is we make our own choice. Waiting for the church to tell you what to do is a lot lazier than making your own decisions.

I just want to see an organized resistance to religion when we go to the polls in November. Lets get God out of Washington.

Atheists are not lazy. Atheists, like theists, do a lot to try to make things better in the world. We just don't feel the need to label our organizations according to our beliefs. We participate in campaigns organized by secular organizations (or start such organizations ourselves without giving them a name with "atheist" in it) and donate money to good causes like other people. We don't do any less good than theists, we just don't advertise who we are when we do it as much as theists do.

Well, all new religions have been persecuted in the past, and maybe we just don't want to get yelled at for being sinners by die-hard fanatics! I get enough of that at school for not saying the "under god" part of the Pledge of Allegiance. Why go looking for trouble?
