I have a morbid memory (from about 12 years ago) and I don't know if Its a false memory or what. After my grandfather passed away I was in shock and despair. I remember being at my grandmothers house and picking up and bible. I remember thinking to myself (and talking to the lord in my mind) that if I flip through the bible and let my finger land on some verse (any verse) that god might offer me some comfort through that verse. So I flipped the pages and let my finger land on one verse. When I read it, it said something like "go on with thy life and not worry of your deceased relative for they are in hell now and forgotten in the eyes of the lord". This has really bothered me all these years but now as I think back I'm not sure if thats exactly what it said or if my mind was so freaked out and sad at the time that I had produced a false memory. Can anyone help me with this. Is this verse (or something similar to it) in the bible?

No, I loved him very much. I was worried, though, because he was never religious and I was wondering about his soul

Yes there is. Carefully read the story of the prodigal son. Actually read the words, and listen to what they are saying. Not what someone has told you that they mean. What they are actually saying.

If you actually read what it says it is plain that Jesus was telling us that no one is going to hell.

I realize that you have been told that this is a story about forgiveness, but this is not the case.

Nowhere in the story does it ever say that the father ever judged the son in any way.

If there is no judgment then no forgiveness is called for.

Read it and prove it to your self.. Grandpa is fine. There is no hell to go to.

Email if you need help.

Love and blessings Don

I am sure that there is no verse like that, for one I have been reading the Bible for over 50 years now and I am sure such a verse would have hit me. 2nd I have run a search through the Bible and it shows nothing. Third it would be Biblically wrong because at this time hell has no one in it yet. No one is thrown into hell until after the judgment day.

My husband is in seminary and we don't know of a verse that is specific to what you are "remembering." However, there are many verses that talk about the separation between God and people once people die and go to hell...that God no longer hears them, and essentially they are no longer "remembered" by God. Of course, God is God and cannot actually forget (otherwise He wouldn't be God), but it's referring to the fact that God will no longer bestow any blessings or mercies or anything because there is now an eternal separation.

And though someone else mentioned that the Bible teaches that good people go to heaven and bad ones go to hell, that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that those who are true followers of Christ will go to heaven and those who have rejected Christ (or claimed to be a follower without actually following) will go to hell.

We cannot speak for where your grandfather is...ultimately only God and the person himself knows where they stood.

Please don't be concerned about something you think you may have been guided to in the bible.Don't allow yourself to be guided by anything from the bible. Who said it was an authority on anything? You seem intelligent. No Thing should guide you.Would you,{while talking to the lord} flip through the bible and make a life and death decision based on a random point of your finger? Would you go to a fortune teller who you think has the power of God guiding him or her;an evangelist? For twelve years this has been on your mind.Ol' grandpa is most likely in heaven and lovin' it.That's how I would like to remember him.

Gospel According to Saint Luke
Chapter 8

5 The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

6 And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it, choked it. 8 And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved. 13 Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit. 15 But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.

This is the condition of the dead:
Ecclesiastes 9:5: "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all."
It is not a place of pain or anything like that.
Job when he was suffering, ASKED to go to hell. Job 14:13, he prayed, "protect me in hell, and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a time when thou will remember me." Hell is not a place of torment, it is just the common grave. Your grandfather is not suffering. It is just as if he were asleep. I hope you find comfort in that.

The closest thing I can think of similar to that is this, where it talks about Christ going back to preach to those who were awaiting judgment who died in the flood during the time of Noah...

18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. (1 Pet 3)

Also, a disciple said to Jesus in Matt 8:22, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

Hope this helps
