It depends on "which God." Christianity? Well, Maybe.
The Old Testament is scary. God is really angry! Start reading the New Testament instead. It is a lot easier to read and understand.
There will always be the debate as to weather the Bible is factual or just inspired. If you choose an evangelical Christian faith, then you must believe that the Bible is "the word". No ifs, ands, or buts. Or if you try Catholicism, they believe that it is inspired, and only the church can interpret the true meaning. The others...Methodists, Lutherans, are somewhere in the middle.

I think it makes sense to interpret some of the stories as metaphors in a document written by people and still believe in God.
Although if you don't believe ANY of the stories, maybe you need to rethink things.

Where do you get your ideas and opinions about God? What do you base them on? I base them on the Bible. I have tested it again and again and believe it to be true and reliable. What would be too "far fetched" for Almighty God? Your understanding of God is limited by your own ideas and opinions.

It makes much more sense to believe in "God" than in bible stories written by ignorant, primitive and opinionated men.

Can you provide an example of a specific one you find too far fetched?

Only God can make the these things in the Bible real to a person. And it doesn't happen offline of the person's will and involvement; each person has to be a willing participant.

No problem with that. I'm no Christian, but what you're describing is just... vague belief in a god that has been defined by the Christians. Of course, the atheist is the first to answer, but hey, that's my spin on it.

Hey, to some, believing in God doesn't make sense. Faith is not about what makes sense, but about what you believe in.
But I think there are many people out there, who believe in God without believing in religious scriptures.
We call ourselves Spiritual. :)

Try the course in miracles. It makes sense and doesn't have all the contradictions like the bible.
