you can go to whitepages.com and do a reverse phone search.
it works on most residential numbers but doesn't work on cell phone numbers.

If it is a home phone number you can just go to google and enter the phone number with area code in the search bar and it will give you there name, address, etc. if they are listed. If they are not listed then you will have trouble finding the information you need.

Sorry, unless you are searching for a family member whom you've never met, or a person you feel you must visit but they only gave you their phone number then use the Yellow Pages.

get a reverse phone book.........police use them all the time.
(has phone numbers then addresses.)

It depends how specific you want to be....If you just want the city, then go by the area code. If you want the address, I have no idea.
