Have heard of persons making couter tops with cement, which had been polished to a glass like finish. Can you suggest a book, or books to study more about this?

Check on Google under Terrazzo. That is what the crafts people who do that call it. I looked just now and there a lot of references about it.

As far as I know, the author (Fu-Tung Cheng) is the master when it comes to concrete countertops.
