I was in a nasty accident a few years back, I even made the front page of the newspaper here, and since then I am scared of driving esp, in the day. I bought a car which I am going to practice driving with a licenced driver until I get my driving confidence back...I cant get over this fear and it was like 4 years ago I was in the accident.
I am serious!!!!
I cant just stay in the house all the time, like I do now.

I've been in two accidents which were life changing for me . One accident in 1994 and the other in 2001. I am still very jumpy and vigilant. You can't undo the trauma, but you can learn to drive again, probably super-carefully. You just need to start driving. You also need to know if, while you're out with your instructor, it feels too overwhelming. Just pull over and let the instructor drive. Don't over do it! It will take time to get your confidence back. In the four years since, there are more people talking on the phone while driving and
being more aggresive. You will have to adjust to that also. Ask your instructor to focus on safe/defensive driving. Be patient with yourself.
Your fear comes from the best and deepest reason: survival. Some fear may always be with you, but you will adjust and thrive. Being alive is good!

face your fear. just take it easy and slow. you were in an accident they don't happen very often, that is why they are called accidents. But I will tell you you should not drive and be scared, to me that is asking for trouble, but you should respect the vechele and the road. Try an empty parking lot for a while, then and seldom used road, maybe a gravel road somewhere. then just take it at your pace. Good luck I'll be the guy waving, lol be safe. you can do it. Millions of people do it everyday and they are all fine.

Find a backyard demo derby ring, and participate in it a few times. Demo racing is fun, and pritty safe all in all. When you see what a car can stand up to, and go through a few small bangs, you should get a little confidence back. What ever you end up doing, good luck getting over your fear.

If it has been 4 years now, I believe I would tell you to see a therapist. The accident has very traumatic to you and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Post Traumatic syndrome is very real and I think you are very much going through this.
Good luck to you, and it's a start to know you do need help!Your NOT alone!!!

Glad you came out OK after the accident. I would go through a driving school, they can help ease your anxiety, and assist in 'defensive' driving techniques. I wish you the best.

I sometimes have anxiety when driving a car, as well. I feel really short of breath and kind of faint. Therefore, I take the bus or walk everywhere.
