This is a great site to get all kinds of info on Doxies
http://www.dachshund-dca.org/
Doxies come in two sizes: Miniature and Standard
and 3 coat types: Smooth, Longhaired, Wirehaired.
They are hounds. Hounds are notoriously stubborn.'
They are also prone to back injuries because they have such a long back. Nevertheless, I like Doxies.
Some are loud, some are hyper, some are smarter than others. Check out the parents. If they have the temperament you are looking, their pups will probably be just like them.

Dachshunds as a rule are very smart. All small dogs can be loud. Mine arent too bad and only bark if they think there is a reason. Sometimes the reason is because they are glad to see me though. All young dogs are hyper and dachshunds seem to be that way fairly often. They also tend to not realize they are not supposed to jump because of their back. You have to keep an eye on them about that so they dont get a back injury. If you get one and it does wind up with a back injury , dont let the vet talk you into putting it to sleep. One of mine got hurt playing with my other one and after a few months can walk again but doesnt have full control of her bodily functions. We just clean up her messes and deal with it as she is part of the family. She has a happy life and isnt in pain. She just doesnt walk as well as she used to. Warm baths seemed to help her.

your first step is to coach your dogs and earn her CH identify to proove that she is a important occasion of her breed. on an identical time as there, locate an exerpienced breeding mentor who can instruction manual you. jointly study genetics, pedigrees, whelping, breeding, doggy elevating, wellbeing themes, faults, etc. enhance a sturdy courting with your vet.. you will need him while she's whelping at 3am and a doggy is caught. shop money.. it expenses to do genetic wellbeing assessments, stud costs, and prenatal care.. on suitable of the money for those, you should also have a minimum of $3,000-5,000 saved for emergency care. while she is two years previous, get her genetic wellbeing assessments achieved by the OFA, CERF, BAER, and Optigen.. as nicely as a brucellosis attempt. once you have achieved all this, your mentor can enable you go with a stud who may be the main suitable mate.. one that has features that flow with your lady's faults. you will locate potential buddies in the prepare ring. Stud costs are in many circumstances the two p.c.. of clutter or money value of p.c.. of clutter.. the main suitable mate isn't continually the single that lives close by, it may require transport the two the male or lady to the different for breeding... the main suitable mate won't particularly be a purple the two.. breeding shouldnt be achieved for coloration anyhow. while you're no longer prepared to make the attempt and expence to do each and all the above, then have her spayed. there are lots of puppy-high quality dachshunds in shelters and rescue, there isn't any reason to risk your lady's existence and risk-free practices over greater sub-high quality doggies.

If you get one that isn't a puppy then you won't have to worry about the "hyper" issue. Try to find one that's about a year old. That way it will already be potty trained and such.

If you're prepared to spend as much time on your dogs hair as you do with yours, then you should get one. If you're not, then don't. These sorts of dogs required a lot of maintainance
