@happygirl: I'm guessing you're a member of one of the many protestant churches, so I suggest you look into the history of the original Protestant, Martin Luther. He said it was actually a virtue (I'm paraphrasing here) to lie if the intention was to advance the cause of god. Then again, he was also in favor of war and civil unrest if those would advance the cause of god, so the man wasn't exactly a saint if you get my meaning.

It is USUALLY not a good idea to lie, but I don't really know what you mean in your question ("lie FOR god??). All I can say is, once in a while, honesty may not be the BEST policy, especially when it threatens the well-being of another. But for the MOST part, it is best not to lie. Hey, we are humans - NOBODY is without lying some time or another.

NO!
Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor. (KJV)
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. (N I V)

In other words lieing is not acceptable behavior according to God. This is the 9th commandment.

As Christians we are not under the old covenant of the law, we are under the new covenant of grace, free from the law.
However, if you have truly asked Jesus to move into your heart and be the Lord of your life, you will be keeping of all the commandments. This is not because you are being legalistic, it is because you are now a steward in all things for God.

As God's steward you are reflecting, representing and honoring God with the choices you make with your thoughts, language and actions. We were not given the commandments to control us they were given with our best interests in mind. By following them we are healthier, stronger and more stable as individuals as we go through life. This is a good thing, don't you agree?

No, God is a God of justice and right living, so with that, He wants us to be honest and tell the truth, even if it means looking foolish or silly. If we do find ourselves lying, then we go to God and talk to Him about it and He will forgive us....! And, He will help us to be honest the next time...

You could try and lie to God, if you believe in God. However God knows everything so why bother?

No and neither would God ask you too. If you think God is asking to lie, then you need to re examine what you think you've been 'told'. God's will never contradicts His word and His word tells us not to lie.

What do you mean? Not tell the truth or lie for God's sake? Well, you can do neither any way

Only if it saves someone's life. If saying "God will be happier if you don't jump off this bridge" works to keep someone from jumping off a bridge, go right ahead and use it.
