For me, there are several things that car must have:
1. Brand know by good quality
2. Not too big and not too small, so that I can navigate easy in city traffic and also use it for a longer trips with more people and some bags. The best class of cars for this is something like Ford Focus / VW Golf (around 4.2 m long).
3. Not too expensive
4. It should have an economical engine, but with enough power. Something from 1400 cm3 to 1600 cm3 for gasoline engine or 1600 cm3 to 1900 cm3 for diesel engines (this all goes for the class of cars described in point 2)
5. It must be comfortable
6. It should have a nice design and color I like
7. Manufacturer should have a service shop in my town

Above horsepower, great brakes, and good handling, I want reliability! The car is no good if it won't start or run when I need it to.
