Can cat fleas live on humans??
We no longer have our cat, she passed away 2 weeks ago ;-; , But when she was here she had tons of fleas. We tryed raid flea spray and shampoos for her. Now that shes gone its been 2 weeks and we still have lots of fleas in the house. Our ankles and legs are all bitten, and my daughter had a flea in her hair. Does anyone know how long flea season in in southern cal and how to get rid of these nasty fleas. thanks

Fleas do not generally live on humans, but will live on soft sufaces in your home ie, bedding, couch, carpet. You will need to kill off the larva and fleas, which will take about 6 weeks min. First you need to wash any bedding the cat may have slept on, wherever the cat goes eggs and larva likely have fallen off onto. Any soft surfaces should be steam cleaned/washed every two weeks for at least 6 wks in order to break the fleas life cycle. My dog and cat got fleas this year and we did not want to spray poison all over our house since we have small children. We opted to spread epsom salts all over our couches/carpet etc(left overnight) in order to dehydrate the fleas, then vacuum and dump the bag. Followed by steam cleaning, every 2 weeks and we've been flea (and chemical) free ever since.

I'm so sorry about your loss. No, I don't know how long the flea season lasts, but I think I can help you a little. They can't really live on humans for long periods of time, as they could on a cat or dog or any other animal, seeing as we don't have a much fur to hide in. But they can give out nasty bites. I would suggest using Raid Flea spray around the house, as you had when you had your cat. Try buying some human flea shampoo or body wash to get them off of you. You should also do a cleaning/inspection of your house. Vaccuum and clean sheets and other bed clothes. This should kill most of them. Without the cat in the house any longer, the flea's reign on your house would go down soon anyway, but these will hopefully help you. Once again, so sorry for the loss of your cat. I hope that this helps, good luck!

fleas love our blood the same as any other warm blooded animal. If you really want to spend the time doing this, I'll tell you..........Go to your local feed store and get 2 big bottles of Adams Flea Spray, then go to Wal-Mart and get a bottle of Triazicide from the Home and Garden area, you need the one that hooks onto a water-hose. Spray that on your yard, it last up to 2 months, if your flea population is really really bad? go ahead and spray again after 1 month. The flea babies are born every two weeks. Then use the Adams in the house on the furniture, carpets, crevices, upstairs, downstairs and around your baseboards...etc...Do the inside of the house every two weeks for 2 months. unless you have them really really bad, this should work...If you've got them so bad that this method doesn't work? call an exterminator!!!! (also, little known fact, if you get fleas or lice in your hair? use a flea shampoo, (once that says will kill lice) ONCE on your hair (only untreated/non-permed) leave it on for 5 full minutes, then rinse, you'll get rid of the pesky critters....I know this because I've done it before).

The fleas will live in your carpet and upholstery and use you and your family to feed on. I used to have this problem, too. All you have to do is get some of those bug bombs from the store. Read the directions and follow them CAREFULLY. Use only the number of bug bombs that is recommended for the size of your home and rooms. Put away all food and cover food surfaces. All pets and people have to be out of the house during bombing. Set the bug bombs off right when you are leaving the house and do not reenter until the recommended time. Open all your windows and air out the house immediately upon return for a few hours. This will do the trick. When I used to have my cat I would bomb the house whenever I took her to the vet for her check ups and it always worked. Good luck!

Get 6 cats that don't have fleas, let them play in the house for 1 hour. Take them in the back of a truck to the river and wash them with flea soap. Take them back home and repeat the cycle. No I do not have any cats, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

You used Raid flea spray on her? Not only did the fleas bleed her dry, you may have poisoned her with the spray!
I lived in Los Angeles for over 30 years. Twice, I had what are called sand fleas infesting my house, I sprayed the carpet regularly with Raid. Eventually I got rid of them. This was before I had any cats.
I have heard that fleas are specific to the animal. Cat fleas, dog fleas, human fleas, they only exist on a specific host.

Call a pest control service or you will never get rid of them. Fleas can live in a doormat state for approximately 9 months and yes they can live on you. A good pest control service like Terminix will tell you to vacuum everywhere, even your furniture, before they come and treat your home and after they have gone. Also wash all bedding. The vibrations from the vacuum will cause unhatched eggs to hatch and go on to the treated surface and die.

This is a lot of work but well worth it to get rid of those tiny, little, blood sucking, evil pest. Good luck : )

our cats had tons of fleas, but they all went away when it got colder. yes, they can live on humans. if you catch any , dont just squish it. flush them down the drain too. i had some when all three of our cats had fleas. they went away. this may sound gross but i suggest not sweeping any spiders away because spiders are really helpful. they can catch all the fleas and kill them. if you have any stuffed animals, wash them. even though they're not alive, they still hide there. good luck.
