I never know if they are expecting tips, or not.
I don't really need someone to carry my groceries, and then I sort of feel guilty when I don't tip them, they never really seem to expect it though. Not sure if I should be or not.

Your not required to but it's the nice thing to do.
They can't get made at you if you don't because they make regular hourly wages.
But ALWAYS TIP YOUR WAITER!!

I'll usually throw a buck in the tip jar at a place like quizno's or chipotle. The way I see it, they're working hard (especially chipotle...they get slammed) and it's not like one dollar is that much money. I've never gotten chili's to go so I'm not sure how that works but usually when I get "To-Go" at a restaurant that primarily does Dine-In I will tip about 10-15% to the person who took the time out to make sure the order was right, bag it up, put napkins/condiments etc. I do that because I have worked in restaurants that are primarily dine-in (As in, no take out counter) and I know how bad putting together to go orders sucks because although you are taking time away from your other, tipping tables to make sure this person's order is correct and they have everything they need, you also know that 90% of the time you're not going to get a tip from them. Maybe just because I've been in the industry but usually when there's a way to tip, I tip. I don't think that's a bad thing.

It's expected. The tip used to be a buck if you only had a few bags, more if you have a cart load. Don't know how much now, only one grocery in the area has people who help. The one time I needed help, the checker offered, I said yes, thank you, and then waited and waited. I gave the kid $2, but I did not have a lot of groceries..

It depends on the store policy, more than anything else. Some stores consider that to be part of the service they provide, and they don't allow their people to accept tips. Others have an open policy: if you want to tip the person, fine, and if not, that's OK, too. Personally, I always check at a store's service desk and see what their policy is first.

I usually tip two or three dollars if it's allowed. I figure the person probably doesn't get paid much and can use a little extra. . .plus, it's my way of saying, "Thank you" for making my life easier.

Aw, bless you for asking, that's so cute! To actually answer your question, it is totaly out of good etiquette! You're right, it's not necessarily expected and most places it's not "in their policy". But that really has nothing to do with it b/c if you slipped them a dollor or five, they'd keep it not go and tell their managers what they should do with it!? If you think they deserve it than by all means you have a nice heart. It's not that big of a deal and often overlooked, but I gurantee it'll make that person smile and be glad they went out of their way to do that. And for me, it wouldn't be about the money, just the fact that you were looking out for me in a sense. Personally I would b/c I know what it's like. I also believe in karma, what goes around comes around. :-D

I work in a grocery store where we do not allow our carts outside. We have parcel pick-up, where are employees load the groceries into your car. We have signs around posted not to tip, because it is a service that we do. People tip them anyway, and the employees really do appreciate it. So you should tip them, they would appreciate it and you wouldn't believe with some of the things you have to deal with in a grocery store!!!

Some groceries stores do not allow tips...I know it sounds crazy, but it is considered one of the services they provide for their customers. If you think about it, there would be a lot more paperwork and things like that for taxes. I wouldn't worry about it. A simple thank you and a smile works well!

It is a good idea to tip them. If you don't need them to help then let them know and then you may not have to worry about the tip. Blessings.

Especially in bad weather it is a good thing to tip at least 1$.

I guess it would be nice, but I have never encountered something like that, so I don't know
