anon is right about the causes of hiccups.
Unfortunately, all you can do is wait them out. There is no cure. The cures are basically ways to keep you and anyone around you entertained while you have the hiccups. Generally they last from 5 to 60 hics and stop on their own.
Good luck! There have been people who hiccuped through most of their lives (see Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley's Believe It Or Not! for more info on those poor saps.).

Hiccups occur when the diaphragm (separating thorax from abdomen) contracts spasmodically. This usually happens when you have gas in your stomach or your belly is full. What your body is trying to accomplish is find a better fit for all the belly's contents.

What I have found works very well for hiccups is aiding the body in applying pressur on the abdomen by HOLDING YOUR BREATH. When you do that you usually tense up your abdominal muscles (same as those used in sit-ups), compressing your guts inward. After about 30 seconds hiccups vanish not to come back.

Hold your breath as long as you can. And if you hold it too long, you'll just wake up on the floor with a splitting headache. Nothing fatal. Some other hiccup remedies could do serious damage. I've read about some awful "cures" in other countries!

I honestly don't think there is one, you can try all the, "holding your breath", "Drinking water", a "spoonful of sugar", etc... but waiting them out seems to just be the only way to get rid of them. Hiccups are hilarious

This always works for me. Drink a glass of water "upside down". By that I mean, take the water, bend from the waist, drink the water. It must be the fact that the water goes over the palate instead of the tongue because it always works. I have been doing this for my whole life and it has never failed me. BUT, you gotta have good balance to do this. Hope it works for you.

You can try all the old stand byes, but this is what my Aunt told me when I was just a kid. Eat a dill pickle. I tried it and it worked. Has worked every time. There have been a few times when I needed to eat two, but sure enough, it worked.
