Both shrimp and the pasta you put it on have mild, delicate flavour that can be easily masked by a strong-flavoured wine, so you should pick a wine that will not overwhelm the seafood.

Also, an alfredo sauce is made with cream (lots of it! hmm! hmm!) which is of course pretty fatty. Typically, you would drink a wine with a good amount of acidity to "cut through" the fatty, creamy texture and create a fresh flavour on the palate.

If you want a white wine, a sauvignon blanc has both a delicate, floral flavour, and a good amount of acidity, and often goes well with many types of seafood.

If you want a red wine, try a pinot noir. The milder peppery flavour will not overwhelm the seafood, and its moderate acidity will cut nicely through the fat.

Shiraz is a red wine and does not go with seafood or cream sauce!

Go with a white wine made from Chenin Blanc. They go best with cream sauces. If it's from France, go with one from the Loire Valley called Vouvray.

Try an inexpensive Shiraz. It goes well with pasta AND seafood.
