Windows comes with Windows Movie Maker (I'm assuming i-movie is movie editing software).

Adobe Premier is the movie editing software, you would be entitled to buy the student version at a huge discount! Go to Adobe's website and check it out.
They also have a cut down version for home users which is cheaper, Premier Elements.

I'm sure you'll get a few suggestions here, if you want it a litle bit cheaper then look on ebay as you might find a bargain on move editing software. ;)

I use Pinnacle Studio? There's a free trial download on their website!
