Dear Olives,
I personally want to recommend an ointment called Resinol. I cut my arm wide-open on a Friday afternoon when I was 11 years old and was afraid to tell me mum. See, I had taken my 7 year-old cousin and put him in an old dryer and used a "monkey wrench" to turn the drum, for fun of course. The momentum was so I couldn't catch the spinning wrench but in trying I received a nasty, deep cut to my arm (my poor cousin eventually got out without my help as I had run away).
I knew I was in trouble for the bad decision to play with the dryer and no one was home so I put this ointment all over the open wound and then hid the entire weekend. On Sunday night I finally had to tell me mum as I knew I could not go to school in my condition. I was in no pain but I had a gaping wound atop me arm. The pediatrician cleaned the ointment off and said whatever it was it kept my skin pliant. He neatly stitched me, amazed I hadn't passed out from blood loss. I have a faint but flat and smooth line where the stiches use to be.
I've been using the Resinol ointment ever since. Truth is, I don't know for sure if the ointment helped. BUT, to this day I use it for everything from dry skin to insect stings. It's sold by the Menthaltum Company.
Best wishes,
pup
