I don't really know how to collect evidence, though I raked through his bins and his compost heap last night. Any suggestions?

to begin with, what makes you think he ate your cat? my local chinese man once said he liked the look of my black lab, she looked very tasty....im sure he was joking as it was never mentioned again! is it possible that your cat ran off somewhere? does he or she normally have certain patterns that arent being kept to? if thats the case the it is possible something has happened to it, although this could be a number of things other than it being eaten. i doubt there is much you can do at all proof wise to be honest and im quite sure that going through other peoples rubbish is illegal, so be careful. just keep your eyes open and hopefully your cat will come back in the next few days. i found mine when i was little living with a family 5 doors up the road!

That is very disturbing...are you sure your not being a little paranoid here? I mean I guess it is probable...but... Unfortunately for you it's not like your going to find much evidence of that. Bones maybe in the trash but he could claim that was a cat they bought for eating...yuck!!! But so the cookie crumbles. I'd keep an eye on them & see if they are trapping cats or what the deal is. Maybe you should just ask him.

i know people here have already said about what was wrong with the neighbor when, no offense, there is something wrong with what u did.

was the cat outside? because maybe if u watched over ur cat it wouldnt be eaten up by the neighbor. even though it could be a crime, there is nothing u can do about it and u will next time have to watch over ur cat if u get another one.

understand this: outdoor cats have the risk of getting hit by cars, getting eaten by dogs, getting sick or hurt by other cats, harmed by other neighbors who hate cats (like me, no offense, but i do not kill them) or simply want cats, or getting lost forever.

even if the cat was in the neighbors bins doesnt mean they killed it. maybe it was because it was already dead and they had to throw it away. dont misjudge them as people like u misjudge me for cruelty to cats.

do u get my point?

You get on well with your neighbour then????
Ye gods! Whatever have you done to each other if you think he'd do an awful thing like this? It's almost beyond belief if I hadn't seen a similar story on TV about a chap who cooked his neighbour's Coi Carp (at £100 a pop!).
I've no idea how you can prove it. The guy on the TV used a video camera and got evidence.
I'm just thankful that I have lovely neighbours.

Ask your other neighbours if they have had similar experiences with this weird person and disappearing pets. Could be an interesting opening line - if you have yet to get to know your other neighbours! I know in the war era, cats were killed, skinned and sold as rabbit - apparently they have similar appearance without fur. Euch!

do you really mean that your neighbour eat your cat. Are do you mean there dog or other animal eat your cat. I really don,t know what to think here as do the other guy/girls that read your Question. If it was your neighbour just go to his house and beat the crap out of him, if it was his dog ask him to please replace your cat or you will eat him

What would make you think that (s)he ATE him? We had a neightbour that got rid of three of our cats but could never proove anything. They were wierd. They actually complained Muffin, our eldest cat, walked across their lawn! - Not that it did any damage or anything... but just WALKED across it.

I'm sorry I don't know how you would proove it but if you do be sure to inform the RSPCA.

If you honestly believe your neighbor ate your cat, contact your local Animal Control officers. It is their job to investigate cases involving cruelty and harm to animals.

why not go over and ask your neighbor if they have seen your cat; tell them how much you miss him; just maybe the cat wasn't eating but are being held as a hostage instead; therefore leaving the door open for his return. good luck!
