It is not necessary in their religion to wear the veil or the hijab. Their quran states that a woman can wear this, but if she does not it doesnt make her any less of a muslim. However, it really is a matter of choice and culture, but to be honest, its probably something thats stuck with them since oppressive men made them wear it as they get jealous easily. Also according to the quran, men can not control themselves so easily so a woman should cover up.

It really depends on where you live. Culture dictates so much. In Morocco you will find women who wear hijab and others who do not, often with members of the same family practicing differently. In many cultures, especially Middle Eastern countries, it is mandated by the culture and/or the government. In others, women's rights are more progressive and women are given the right to choose.

From what I hear and read there seems to be different schools of thought. They all get it out of the Quran.
Some like to respect women as equal and sensible beings and another groups seems to have a great need to prove that women have to be treated as if they were very inferior to men.

Think about these;
would you like to be oggled by other men?
would you like to loose your dignity or self respect?
do you like to be respected by other people regardless of who you are?
does putting on a veil make you in anyway look different in a physical nature?
do you loose your self respect if you put on a veil?
Please think about these

No. But they do need to wear hijab. I am a Muslim woman and wear hijab for three reasons. One because ALLAH is pleased when i wear it. Two because Islam requires it. And three because when I wear hijab it makes me feel good about myself.
