I thought I was finally beginning to be cured of GERD, and then I went to an acupuncturist who is also a GI doctor. He said that he doesn't believe that I need to restrict my diet, as long as I just don't drink coffee. So I had apple cider with cinammon twice. And I took an orange flavored Airborne. My difficulty swallowing became worse!! He must've been wrong!!!!!!!! Can I still get better? If I have to get my throat stretched are there any success stories out there after this procedure? And...does it hurt??

Hi Friendlygal. I do not understand how getting your throat stretched is treating the CAUSE of your problem. Be sure your doctor can explain to you how this treats the cause. You would also be wise, and it would be appropriate, to ask the doctor for several scientific studies of this procedure that:
1) document its effectiveness
2) document its safety.

I would like to suggest an excellent book that may offer lots of help for you. It is by Sherry Rogers, M.D. and is called: No More Heartburn. Dr. Rogers is a specialist in diagnosing and treating the environmental (actual) causes of these and related conditions. Her book explains the many CAUSES of esophageal/GERD/stomach problems and how to successfully treat them. This book is solidly based on the scientific research that is available to every doctor (but read by few of them) and the book lists hundreds of scientific papers to support her recommendations.

You can order the book from Amazon.com. I highly recommend it.

Best wishes and good luck.

I have no idea what could be wrong with her, but I know that all 70+ horses at my barn get beet pulp every night and that doesn't happen to them. If you know what vet sees this horse (and hopefully you do since you were left alone with her for 2 weeks) you could call him up for a phone consult. Most vets are happy to answer questions from concerned clients; even if you're not the horse's owner you are a caretaker. If the vet thinks its normal, he'll say so; if not, he'll come out and see the horse and K will have to pay the bill. Not having the vet come out when it's an emergency could be negligence- and K (and possibly you, depending on how old you are) could be held liable. I wouldn't withhold water from the horse, though. It's just going to cause her to dehydrate (not drinking water when you have a cold doesn't make you any better, does it?)

My brother had it done - he said that he had a minor sore throat for 2 days following the procedure (similar to a cold). He hasn't had trouble swallowing since.
