My husband and I have lived in our house for 4 months. The police have now been to our house 3 times over our dog barking, a car parked on the street and talking too loud outside. I recently found out I can find out who is calling, should I confront those people? The police told me there are people in the neighborhood that are talking on a Yahoo chat site and calling in people like us! Please advise

Sounds like you need to be more considerate of your neighbors.

Maybe ask the police next time they get a call they suggest they talk to you. Unless the car parked on the street was illegally parked, I don't see why the police should be involved. If my neighbours dog barks too much, I go over there and ask him to find out why. Maybe they had issues with the previous people, and don't realise they've moved. If you do find out who it is a polite note in thier letterbox may open the way for communication.

Well, it depends.

Does your dog often bark? Because that's just annoying.
Where you a bit loud when you were talking outside? What time was it?
I'm not sure about the car parked outside. But this would make me think that your neighbours are nuisance and have nothing else to do that call the cops. As if they had nothing else to do. My dad was a cop, and he was sick of people calling for no reason.

Anyway. i think your neighbours should have asked you to prevent your dog from barking. Same thing with the rest. If you know who they are, just go and talk to them, and tell them that next time, they should really tell you face to face because you don't always realize, etc. Do it in a nice, normal way. That will piss them off!!!

You should find out who it is. It may not be you are too loud, but that they are very nasty. As for the car parked on the street, I know in most areas of the country your neighbors can't do anything about on-street parking. I had a neighbor who complained about the same thing and that is what the police officer told her. Some people are not happy unless they are making others miserable. Good Luck.

I would confront them, esp. if the police come over and take your side. You could write a letter so things don't get nasty, but some people are just silly about things like that. If your dog is out barking all the time I would be pissed too though. Some people should just get over it. I'm surprised the police would even go to a home based on a complaint like that.

Is your dog barking excessively? Are you being too noisy when outside? I can't really answer your question until I know more on the issue. But, if your dog is barking all the time, and you are noisy neighbors, maybe you need to calm things down a little. Especially until you get in good with some of the neighbors!! Being in a new neighborhood can be the pits, but please remember to be aware of the others in the neighborhood.

Is your dog barking a lot? If so, you need to stop the dog from barking. Was your car parked illegally? If so, it was fair game. Were you yelling outside? At what time?

First, you need to establish if you were being unreasonable. If you really feel that there claims are unjust. I would attempt to talk to them about it. Unfortunately, if they're being irrational, success is doubtful. However it's worth a try. Ask them if they could please come to you before the police. And if talking fails, pay them back in kind.

Check to see if they put up anything on their property that might have required a building permit. Watch for inappropriate behavior that you can call in.

You can be noisy till 10pm .dogs barking just to be barking is not good. as for the car it is against parking violations ..and the yahoo thing .I have never heard of any one doing that but it could be possible.just take care of the barking dogs and talk softer. if the police are called out too many times they can give u warning and then fine you .

Well, Do you think it was worth calling the police. Would you have done it? If not, I think maybe you should find out and let them know by letter or person that it was not your intension to bother them and if something els should occur. To let you know and you will take care of it. But that there is no ill will and you and your dog(s) are just getting ajusted.

Once you appologize things will probbly be ok. Neighbors are like having parents. They want to be in your business and they expext you to follow there rules. As adults we are supposed to learn to comunicate with others. But some poeple are still child like. Hopfuly you Neighbors are good and nice poeple.

Good Luck I hope this helps.

We have a few people in our neighborhood that don't like dogs & call the police. One family even had their dogs taken away for 3 days. Check with your city hall on the exact laws regarding each matter. If you plan to live there for a long time just be a nice a possible to them, you don't want to make things werse. If this is temporary politly ask them if you have offened them in any way. Put it on yourself.

Keep your barking dog indoors.

As for the rest of the complaints, ignore them. Eventually the police will stop responding to nuisance calls that have no merit.
