The A1 (parts of which are motorway), which is dual carriageway from its junction with the M25 to Morpeth, almost 20 miles north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a distance of nearly 280 miles, although it is possible to travel using only dual carriageways and motorways all the way from Plymouth in Devon to Aberdeen in north-east Scotland.
