Phlebitis
Phlebitis is inflammation of the veins. It is most common in the legs and almost always takes place in varicose veins. The complications that can occur may be serious, so it is important to know a bit about the condition.

To understand phlebitis, it is helpful to remember that arteries bring the blood from the heart into the head, arms, and legs and end in the network of small capillaries which then pass on into the veins that take the blood back to the heart and lungs.

Blood flows more slowly through the veins and especially in varicose veins where they become dilated and more torturous. When added pressure is put on the veins by a lot of standing and squatting, by crossing the legs and by getting bumped, an inflammation takes place. This causes the area to become swollen, painful, red, and tender to touch. Once it begins, it can extend up and down the leg and may cause fever. At this point, it becomes urgent to be checked by the doctor and start immediate treatment. It is at this time that blood clots can develop and, if dislodged, circulate into the heart or lungs with fatal results.

Treatment of phlebitis includes any or all of the following: antibiotics for infection, aspirin to thin the blood and minimize clots, and continuous wet dressings. The use of support stockings may also be recommended to you after the acute attack subsides. The doctor will also talk to you about not standing too much, to avoid sitting on a hard seat with the leg at a right angle to the thigh (keep the leg partially straightened and elevated), to be careful not to rub or massage the leg, and to avoid crossing them. When there is a severe enough problem with varicose veins, it may be necessary to consider surgery of the ligating/stripping kind.

The doctor may also check for and treat any associated problems you may have with your health such as obesity, high blood pressure, poor circulation, and diabetes. Attention to these conditions will help you to get over an attack of acute phlebitis better and more quickly. It often takes several weeks to get over an attack. If you become prone to repeated attacks, it is important to avoid the things mentioned above that contribute to acute attacks.

It is especially helpful to avoid overweight, the use of tobacco (both the smoke and smokeless kinds), and to make sure you get some regular exercise, especially walking.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Phlebitis is inflammation of a superficial vein, not to be confused with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), but can be painful. Usual cause is some kind of trauma, possibly from an injury or sometimes it occurs when varicose veins are present.

Pain is relieved with anti-inflammatory medication, and wearing support stockings. If it becomes infected, antibiotics will be necessary. Sometimes further investigations are needed to determine whether the phlebitis has spread to a deeper vein, in which case a blood thinning agent (usually heparin) is given to disperse the clot.

Honey, you have made my day. LMAO!!! I am a nurse and it is phlebitis that you are trying to spell. It is an inflammation of the vein. It most commonly affects the legs. The affected area will be very red, warm to touch. The vein is very hard and it is painful. The affected limb can also swell. It can be a result of many things including a bacterial infection. Hope that helps!! Also, nice try on the spelling, at least you were close enough that it could be figured out.

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/iW6jP

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

After 10 years of struggling with all sorts of creams and pills to treat this embarrassing problem I was able to get rid of my varicose veins by using natural healing methods and alternative herbal home remedies.

Read Diane Thompson's "Varicose Veins Secrets" (also available in electronic format at: http://www.varicoseveinscure.org ). By following this guide book I was able to eradicate my varicose veins pretty fast. God bless!
