I'm interested in getting a kitten, but I don't want to have to clean up hair everyday.

It's more of a dietary thing then cat thing. If you feed them a good quality diet that helps reduce the shedding. I personly find medium and longer haird ctas don't shed as much as the short haired ones do. It has to do with the thickness of hair, short hair cats have denser coats, more hair= more shedding....

If you took every hair a cat shed in a day and put it end to end, you would find that some cats can shed up to one mile a day of fur. I got this from the Royal Canin Persian Formula dry cat food bag.

OK, now you know. Here's how you control what gets around your house. You groom. A good combine with a simple pocket comb, every day, can be a big help. No fancy brushes needed. There is also a new device on the market called a Pet Hair Pickup. it is a roll of sticky tape peel offs. All you do is roll the surface of the roll over the spot you want to clear and it picks up the hair. You peel off that sheet and have a new one to work with. I keep several on hand.

Breed certainly makes a difference in how much a cat sheds. But there is an even bigger factor..... diet. I have two cats and one of them come to find out has food allergies. We stopped giving her canned food and changed the hard food to the skin sensitive food. BOTH cats hardly shed at all now. Before we made these changes, you would pet one of them and end up will a handful of hair.

Certain breeds have been purported to not shed: the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex have short, fine fur that results in less noticeable shedding, and the hairless Sphynx is actually covered in a fine down that won’t shed. This results in less noticeable fur accumulation around the house,

They shed like any other animal. A healthy cat with a good diet should not shed excessively. Also, brushing helps minimize shedding.

Depends on what kind. Long haired cats appear to shed more. There are "shed-less" cats out there.

Well, all cats or kittens shed. If you have longhaired cats or kittens, they will seem to shed more because they have more hair than their shorthaired counterparts.
