ok so theres this dog, its a dalmation and he lives in a dog house outside. He's chained to it. His chain is about 6ft long. I don't know exactly how old but i know he is about 10 year old. His nails are waayy to long that they're curling out, his collar it to tight, i think he has arthritis because when he tried to stand his front legs wobble/shake, and he has ..well i dont really know what it is but it looks like some kind of tumor or something. I really want to help him but how can i without the owners getting fined? The owners are around 80 years old and i think they had originally bought the dog for their daughter who has down sydrom (sp?). They don't have enough money for the dog and i don't really think they even want it. What can I do to help?

I would call the humane society or dog shelter in your area and explain everything you've done here. They may not fine them, but that dog definately needs help.

CALL THE ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER

That is abuse and neglect!!!

Animal control typically will first go out and ask them to release the dog to them. If they agree and there are mitigating circumstances, they would most likely not be fined. At their ages and the problems with the retarded daughter, animal control will probably work with them if they give up the dog.

They will take him to the Humans Society and see if they can bring him back to health.

When the ofifcer takes the dog, please let Dalmation Rescue know and give them the shelter information. Rescue works nationally.

Here is the web page for rescue and contact info:

You might contact Dal Resscue and see if they can get the people to sign the dog over to them. Might give that a try fiist before bringing in animal cotrol. Rescue volunteers are experienced with this sort of thing.

I had to call the ASPCA on my neighbor because of a neglected dog and they did not tell my neighbor it was me, I didn't care if they did but they didn't tell. The dog was a long hair dog in terrible shape, his hair was very matted and had a nest of bugs in it. They came out and made the neighbor get the dog groomed then came back out to check on the dog. My neighbors didn't get any fines or any touble with the law. My groomer ended up shaving the dog in her shop and said she had never seen a dog so neglected in 30 years of grooming. I see that little dog all the time now and am so glad I called.

That is animal neglect. I would call the local ASPCA or humane society. They will come it, examine it, take care of it and then if it has a good temperament, give it up for adoption to a loving home. I doubt the owners would be fined since they are so old and probably don't have the money to take care of him their self. Just ask yourself what it would be like to be in that dog's position and you will know what to do

Talk to the owners. I am sure they would appreciate any help that ou can give them. Offer to call the ASPCA for them and see if the ASPCA can help. Maybe take the dog for them to be checked. It is likely that the best thing for the dog would be to have it put down. I do not think they will fine the owners due to their age, health and financial situation. Good luck to you and thanks for being a kind, concerned neighbor.

It depends what country you are in...if you are in the UK then contact the RSPCA or the PDSA straight away, they will go and talk to the owners and try to educate them into caring for the dog, however as the owners are elderly, they would probably ask permission to take the dog away and get it proper treatment.I would be surprised if the elderly owners would be fined...

Call the ASPCA or the Humane Society.

The dog desperately needs help. I doubt that the owners would
be fined.

I don't think they are doing it on purpose, they may have health problems of their own and not realize how bad off the dog is or just don't know what to do to help the animal.

Well I think you should talk to the owners and see if you two can work something out. Like you could buy food for the dog, take it to the vet(all of this with permission of course), Buy medicine for the dog. I hope this helps.

I would call your local shelter with this same explanation. It's very possible that they will simply take the dog and not fine them if they are willing to surrender it.

Agree with other statements that you could offer to take the dog and seek out a suitable home to live out his life in a more loving/comfortable place.

Falling short of paying to care for the dog yourself, you need to decide which is more important, the dogs health or the owners being fined?

Have you voiced your concerns to the owners? If you have and they haven't made any changes then IMHO they are neglecting their dog and someone needs to step in..

If it is plainly demonstrated that this poor dog needs help, then I would check with the owners first and ask them if they know this dog needs medical attention. If answer is Yes,then if they can't afford to care for him,ask if they would be willing to give it up for adpotion. If answer is No,then ask them if they know that if reported they could go to the slammer for cruel and inhumane treatment, and you're just trying to help them and the pet.If all fails, then report them to you local aimal shelter, this pet needs help that evidently the older couple can't afford ,or too old to care.
