I cannot find pictures of uncut Doberman ears anywhere and I am really curious what they would look like. I have a Doberman/Shepherd mix puppy with the cutest floppy ears. She looks exactly like a pure Doberman puppy but I know that Shepherd ears perk up so I was wondering if I have a chance that they'll stay flopped over. So my question is, do Doberman ears automatically perk up even if you don't cut them?

for the record, I would *NEVER* cut/crop her ears, tail or any other body part, i think it is incredibly cruel. I hope they stay flopped over because they look SO cute!

and finally, at what age do the ears perk up if they were going to do so?

If you have not had any experience in caring for newly cropped ears I suggest you leave with the pup with the breeder until at least the ears are posted. Which means after the incisions have healed, stitches removed and then posted. If you get the pup while the ears still have stitches you better be able to clean them properly 2-3 times a day or infection will set in fast as well as if the scabs are not removed in a certain way they will pull the ears down and will heal that way. The ears will have to be re-posted every 10 days by someone with experience. If you attempt to post the ears yourself and do not do it correctly you could end up with ears that flop, bend etc etc... Posting of the ears can take 1-12+ months for them to stand properly Did the breeder recommend a vet in your area who can do the postings..and have you called them about it yet. Many vet will not post the ears as not all have experience in it. Have they offered to show you how to clean the pups ears? I find it hard to believe that a reputable responsible breeder would send a pup home with their new family soon after being cropped if they have no experience caring for newly cropped ears. If you are getting the pup from a reputable breeder she should have explained everything to you.

You might get lucky and the ears may stand up themselves because of her being part shepard. But if she takes after the Doberman they will most likely be floppy. But to answer your question no doberman ears do not stand up on their own unless they have been cropped.

Doberman's ears are floppy unless cropped. I think the flop is adorable! With mix of GS, you have a 50/50 chance of the flop staying... hmm, maybe one ear will perk and the other won't :) My Border Collie pup has one ear up and one not up yet... it's very adorable.

The ears will just stay flopped over. They will be happier that way. The Pup will suffer when you crop their ears. But in the long run they will look better. If your ever gonna show you dog, you need the ears cropped. But if you decide to crop the ears then you have to do it when the dog is really young. They will stay flopped and when the dog is happy sometimes the ears will rise up, but then flop back down again.

Floppy. I had a floppy ear doberman because my vet feels it is cruel to cut the ears.

they stay floppy ..

Why would you put a pup through the pain of cropping its ears ... Its just to make the dog look mean .. Its a usless , painful surgey .. No point in it .. Then you have to tape theirs ears for sometimes months .. why even do this to this already beautiful breed ??

They will be floppy. Go to petfinder.com and search for Dobermans. You will see some with natural ears.

They are floppy and look so cute! Just liek a labs ears. PLEASE leave her ears alone, if you love her you won't put her throught the painful mutilation!

We had a full breed adult dobie at the shelter I worked at and her ears where still floppy, they don't have the thick cartlege like shepards.
