Surely because most of the time parents or other grownups are actually with the kids while they trick or treat while those who aren't are usually old enough to be out alone at night anyway. Besides, the streets are usually packed with people on Halloween making it rather difficult for any would-be child abuser to pull any stunts.

Well, in the town in which I live, Trick-or-Treat is at night. Most parents of children under the age of 10 or so come with them. The older kids go in groups.

Back in the 80s, Trick-or-Treat was done on Sunday afternoon. That kind of took the "fun" out of it. Besides, "pervs" as you call them don't just stay home during the day.

Parents and kids have to be mindful of their surroundings and follow the general "rules" of Trick-or-Treating.
1. Go with a parent or grown up you know
2. Go with friends
3. Stay in neighborhoods you know
4. Wear clothing cars can see (not all black, for example)
5. Check your candy when you get home. Throw out anything that isn't pre-packaged. (like apples)

Just a few "rules." There are more. The safety dept in your city can give you more suggestions.

Well, this time of year, it gets dark as early as 4:30 pm in some areas, the latest being 6:30. They can't exactly go during the day, when they're in school, right?

Besides, there are so many people out, this scares away the pervs, as they don't want to be seen by lots of people or the parents who go with their kids, or who drive their kids.

Sounds like you may be one of the pervs. Just stay home this year.

Yes, ppl DO know that, but we cant let the pervs stop us and our kids from celebrating Halloween. Its been around for many many yrs. The little kids need to have an adult with them of course, but I think the teenagers can go with a group of their friends.

We always sort thru the candy before our son eats a thing. Plus our son NEVER goes inside anyones house.

i'm sixteen and every year my parents walk up and down our street with me and my friends. the thing is that that's the only time that people give out candy. and my parents are well aware of the pervs, don't worry!

I think its terrible, not just because there are pervy people about but because it's just downright rude! All these kids have to do is go round to the corner shop, buy a 99p mask and expect us to chuck sweets at them! Our doorbell rings every five minutes for the whole week surrounding halloween and it's beyond a joke!

I am such a scrooge aren't I?!

I think it's harmless fun as long as you go with them. We could spend our whole lives worrying about perverts, criminals etc but if you did you wouldn't go out anywhere. I spent my childhood doing it year after year and never came across any weirdos. Keep kids safe but don't mollycoddle them as they will never experience life. I'm going out on halloween with my kids dressed up as catwoman! Life is for living not hiding behind closed doors worrying who's out there.

Yes,but sensible parents go as well, and hide around a corner and watch their kids are safe.Pressure from all their friends that go.Also the appeal of cash and candy.

That's the whole idea. It's Halloween, for god sakes! Most parents accompany the children that I have noticed. Dark and scary is kind of the whole theme.
