Not at all - that's not going to train him. You need to do that by being very consistent. You need to keep him in the room with you so you can watch him. Take him out after a nap, after playing, after a drink or if he hasn't been out for a while. You go out with him, tell him "go pee", and give him lots and lots of praise as soon as he does, then come back in. Dogs learn very quickly through lots of praise, they don't learn well with corrections.
All of the spots in the house where your puppy has gone need to be cleaned very thoroughly with an enzyme cleaner to get all the smells out or he'll just keep going back there.
Also, remember young puppies have no more bladder control than a baby has, so to train them - you have to watch them and take them out before they pee in the house. With repetition and lots of praise, he'll learn.

ummm, ok. Take the puppy outside every two hours, more if it can't hold it that long. When you see that the puppy is squatting to pee or poo, say something like go potty, go potty, WHILE the puppy is doing it, then when it's finished, pet it over and over again for a couple of minutes, saying good dog good dog.......routine will get the results that you want.....I've trained every dog I've ever had that way and it hasn't failed me yet.

Your house is gonna start to smell like seasoned pee and poo!
There is sprays out there that might be more appropriate and help eliminate the smell and not mask it.
Check your local pet store for possible products that might do the trick.

Don't do that. Crate train him or buy some treated pee pee pads. Puppies are not born knowing that peeing on the carpet is bad, you have to teach them. Be patient! If you just spot treat it, he will find new places to go.

Put new paper down in a confined area till the dog does what ever he is going to do. Every time the dog goes else where scold it and take it to the paper. They are not stupid. that's why we love them. After it start using the paper, that now he has free access to. You move the paper until it is close to the door. next move the paper outside. Time consuming, i know. But it works.

he'll just find another spot. perhaps you should try another approach. whenever you see him sniffing around take him outside and then reward him for going in the grass.
