I have a maitance order that he has been impuned to pay. however, he does not. Here in canada we have a system called maitenance enforcement program. however: because he lives with friends and does not work for very long periods of time: MEP says that they cannot find him. I've tried to convince them to activly search for him but they say that they don't have that kind of manpower. Visitation apparently is a seperate issue that i'm not pushing, because honestly i don't think that i could handle being around him for hours every week.
Thank you all for your imput. it helps to know that I'm thinking clearly. I don't like to be colored by emotion but I can't help it. I want (my baby) to have a stable home life, but i also want him safe. So no, I don't think I'll allow him to present himself to my bb.

So... What's a nice way to tell him no? that will make him reconsider the life he's leading but still leaves the possibilty of visitation open for later... when he's "better" well, clean.

You said it.. the life he's leading but still leaves the possibilty of visitation open for later... when he's "better" well, clean.

I would tell him what you just wrote.. And if he can't catch on or has no desire to get clean then thats on him and he will miss out on your sons life..

Tell him that you would really enjoy it if he could have a clean and sober relationship with your son. Tell him about the joys you've had with your son and how special it is to you to watch him grow up, and love him, and how it warms your heart to know he loves you too. Tell him he can have all that too, all he has to do is sober up and stay that way. Help you with your sons needs, clothes and food, and such and you are more than willing to let him in.
Try to be positive and encouraging.
