In Ohio, you need to go to the Child Support Enforcement Agency and file paperwork against the father (which usually the welfare agency is in the same building - department of human services). Then they usually have a few hearings, offer a paternity test to the father, go over his income, and begin the process for you to get child support. You can contact an attorney, but they do cost money and I would only do that if you are suing him for not getting child support (after the order is made). The courthouse basically can't help you and they will NOT give you legal advice - period - so don't waste your time there anymore.

You have to go directly to the Friend of the Court, not just the courthouse. No lawyer is needed to get child support, it's the law that it be paid. You can go to the local family independence agency for assistance, but they don't inforce the child support. They may tell you who you can speak with but again the only one that can do anything is the Friend of the Court. You will have to have the full name and social security number of the father, that makes it a lot easier for him to be found unless you already have his address and place of employment. Good luck.

contact the child support division if they dont seem to be interested then take it straight to the attorney generals office thats where it will end up anyway fill out the forms and answer their questions its not an easy road especially if the father doesnt want to live up to his responsibilities just remember that you have to stay on top of things and keep in close contact with the ag as they do not represent either parent they represent the state hang in there and have a good weekend

if you were never married to this person----you're going to have to go through the court system to establish patenity---Seek out the Department of Children and Family----for help and temporary support ---foodstamps (wic) ect.
DNA testing may have to be done too----your case sounds like you've had a child and not married. Is this guys name on your childs birth certificate?
Seek legal counsel as soon as possible to get educated answers to your dilema
