Yes, of course this is true. Let's look at the classic "I've fallen and I can't get up" commercial of some years ago. If you were a young person seeing this ad, it was laughable... stupid even. If you were an older person, however, who this might actually happen to... it was frightening. What if that really happened to me? That's the thought that the ad was designed to inspire in old people. The ad was a threat. To consummate its message: Either buy our product or you will fall and there will be no one around to help you... nobody loves you but us. I knew several old people at the time this ad came out on TV who wanted to order the thing because the ad had convinced them that where ever or when ever they fell (and they would fall) that there would be no one there to help them. No one would call. No one would come by. Nobody would care if they fell except these strangers on TV. As an aside, subliminal advertising was banned, I think in the 50's... but some of today's viral campaigns border on that. We have psychology majors helping the marketing people make ad. YES! Advertising can create demand where there was none. A dangerous proposition, and the reason why people are instinctually wary of advertising. We can thank our car dealers and get rich quick schemers for alot of marketing's failures.

Advertisements are create by marketing people. It's the buyer's choice and decision to buy or walk out on them. Be careful if you have a credit card. This is a credit card scam http://latest-info.blogspot.com/...

The ad cannot make you do anything. You are the one to make the decision to buy or not. The objective of the marketer is of course to write an ad that will entice you to buy.

of course they do. ads create a need by using a lot of methods. think of social learning theory and the concept of rewards and punishments. a lot of products we dont need are made and then we buy them cause we are made to believe that we do need them! teeth whitner which never works, whitening creams, and a lot more.

The M & M's commercial does it all the time. I love M&Ms and I don't need them.
