AARRGGH! if it wasn't for the session restore i'd be going insane right now! but why does it keep crashing for no reason??

Have you tried scanning for Adware, Spyware and Viruses??
Those would definitely cause issues you are describing.
Try Adaware to remove Spyware and AVG free Antivirus all from http://www.download.com

Rock solid for about a week now. I have it on three or four different systems. Maybe one of your extensions doesn't like it. Look for updates for them.

Try looking for a newer version (I'm not sure what version my FF is on). Also, try getting rid of the program and reinstalling it.
