Whenever I open a new document, I get a bunch of text. It looks like another document saved over top of the normal blank page. I don't know how to fix this. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your normal.dot template has become messed up. Who knows how? Exit Word.

Use the search tool on your start menu to look for normal.dot . When your computer locates it delete the file. The next time you start word it will create a new normal.dot and it will be blank and your problem should be fixed.

You accidently saved to NORMAL.DOT. Here is how to FIX that.

- Open WORD, then close the new document when it comes up, by hitting the lower X near the top right corner. This should be a GRAY looking screen.
- Hit the OPEN item under the FILE menu, this should show MY DOCUMENT. Use the LOOK IN drop down to pick the file OWNER (or whatever your name is) that MY DOCUMENTS is in.
Then double click on Application Data
then double click on Microsoft
then double click on Templates
(this should be Application Data\ Microsoft\ Templates)
You will then see Normal.dot - just OPEN this.
Change that page to look like a BLANK, then SAVE.

Good luck

Open the document that is marked as template, if there is any text on it then just delete it and save as template. this should fix the problem.
When you type a document from the template then use "save as" and give it a name.
If you chose "save" it will overwrite the template.
