Yes, and for what our military do and how they risk their lives; they are entirely too under-paid. They should be one of the highest paid in the United States. Alot of times when a spouse is deployed, the one left behind has to either live with family or go on some kind of assistance; depending where you live and how many children you have with you. That's really sad.

we were on welfare for two months. food stamps helped us out alot. times were hard and we didn't have enough money. beats going to those check cashing places. we are also on wic. its not like military servicemembers are freeloading and using the system. the lower ranks just don't make enough to support their families and alot of the families coming into the military already have a few children and only one income.

it wouldnt surprise me...if you dont know, the people who serve their countries do not get paid very much, especially the ones who havent been in 15 years or are not a E6 and above...sure we get medical and free housing but the pay is kind of crappy..
alot of wives do not work and decide to stay home with the children so there is only 1 small income coming in...alot of military personnel are considered low income families...

Yes, and there have always been. The military pay scale has never been such that the lowest ranking private/seaman/airman/marine could support a family.
It is really no different than many other entry level jobs (i.e. minimum wage jobs) in the civilian world. Civilians however, have options.
The answer is not necessarily to pay them more, but at least to provide for their necessities. This is one of the few instances that I support socialism.

I don't understand what your point is.
My husband is military and we qualify for WIC and Food Stamps. I personally think we should be paid a bit more for our sacrifice (all personnel and their family members make huge sacrifices), but I am still eternally proud of my husbands service.
If you believe that servicemembers should recieve higher salaries and better benefits, write to your representatives.

The military is the lowest paid job on the planet. When you think about all the hours the soldiers work in a day, it comes out to about $2.60 per hour. How many people really want to work for that??

No, I didn't know that...if it's true that's awful.
They should be paid well...and their familes should not have to be on welfare.
It's disgusting to think that the private security and private industry workers over there are making 20 x's more than our military personnel...oh and they have all top-notch armour and equipment!
It's HORRIBLE!

Yes, It's amazing that the government sets the poverty rate and then decides to pay their protectors of freedom thousands of dollars below that rate. I knew several married marines when I was in that recieved wellfare. It's unfortunate!!!!

well if you liberals would allow us to kick all the illegals out of our country, and put these lazy good for nothing Americans we have sucking on the taxpayer tyt,to work,or on community projects to give back what they take,we would be able to free up so much federal dollars that our military men,and women, and their family's would not be in that position, thank you liberals!
