9 month male australian shephard. He is WILD and loves to harrass my chihuahuas and kittens and jump on people. So I want to get him a play mate so he doesn't harrass any of us.

Don't want to get another australian because what if its wild just like him. Don't want pitbull because I'm afraid it may bite my chihuahuas.

It depends on the individual dogs. Breeds get along fine, it's "personality conflicts" that cause fights.

You can take your puppy to a shelter and have him pick out his own playmate. Most shelters have yards or "family rooms" so everyone can meet and greet, so you can be sure everyone will get along.
Shelter mutts make the best pets. They are temperment tested, inexpensive, with lots of "extras" and you are saving a life. Can't beat that.
Good luck

First off youre thinking is drastically flawed. Never focus on a breed b/c breeds can exhibit all different types of personalities. In order to have a dog that can keep up with him you would have to have to have another WILD dog, and that is where that flaw is. If you got a dog with a personality that would keep up with his you would just have two terrors and that would just make your life much more difficult. Yes they will play together, which will be nice, but they will also harass the other dogs and cats together, jump all over people together and so on. Putting a dog with a disposition that is oposite of his families (sounds like youre aussie) can make for a very stressful situation and adding another can just make it worse. You really need to put some energy into your Aussie in terms of training and exercise. Adding another dog like him will just make things worse. Dont do it.

Well, we have a similar situation with our Border Collie. Just recently, we have taken in a stray that looks to be of herding style dog and since this time, our BC has taken to playing with her, instead of harrassing us all the time.

I'd say that you could likely be safe to get another Austrailian as it will make a good playmate for the one you have and will have the same energy level. They won't harass you together, but play with each other instead! If you just want a different breed, a Border Collie is another option.

I have a two year old Australian Shepherd and raised her from a puppy. The only thing that is going to help your dog is proper training. He is always going to be high energy, so you must teach him what behavior is acceptable. Getting another dog is not the answer and will probably make him even more excited. They are extremely intelligent animals and are fast learners. If you aren't able to train him, get help from a professional. It will do wonders for the dog and your relationship with him. Once you get the dog's respect, they are wonderful companions. Good luck!

Brittanys are nice for kids and very docile but any puppy is full of energy while growing and the more you work with them and excercise them the better off u will be they have to burn off energy just like we do and u must help find ways to meet thier needs. traing starts around 5 months of age when the puppy is able to understand a little better and can follow some rules. invest in an obediance class instead of another puppy. reward the dog with treats for deeds well done. its still not to late and u will be happier with a better behaved dog. peace for the whole family

Sex and breed are not good factors in determining if they will be a good pet, some breeds have certain characteristics but all dogs are unique. And gender issues are often not an issue at all! My male dogs LOVE other males.

Have you thought about a rescue dog? A quarter of all dogs in shelters are purebred dogs, if that is important to you. The great thing about rescues is, you can bring your dog in and have him meet potential new family members, to see which dog is a good fit. It would be the ideal situation, your dog would essentially be picking his new friend!

May I suggest that you don't add another dog? All that will do is encourage his behavior and the next one will learn to act like he does.

He desperately needs to get some manners - in fact far more than he needs another puppy to whom he can teach his bad manners. He is NOT going to improve without you taking some action - and adding another dog is not it.

Now you both need a GOOD obedience class - and that is NOT Petsmart or Petco.

.GO here to find contacts in you area that can help you locate and obedience trainer who works with all beeds and who does AKC obedience compettions:

Even it they are an hour or more away, they will know other people all over the state.

I would recommend letting your dog choose. First find what type of breed will suit your needs, then take your dog to meet them. Your dog will choose the one that is right for him sex wise. Make sure you chose a breed with the same stamina though. If you get one that is too mild for him it will more likely encourage the focus on your more lively animals.

I would surley get another Aussie! They are the best dogs ever!!!!
I would get a female. If you get a male. Your dog could become territorly aggresive. I would get a female dog younger than 1 yr. so she can get used to your home and your dog will have a very pplayful playmate.
Hoped This Helped!!!!
