I've noticed most tounge colors are pinkish red but I'm wondering why is a giraffes tounge black, Is it because is eats that thorny tree? And if so why isn't a koalas tounge black?

because they like black cherry lollipops. Is my guess. There are other animals with a variety of colored tongues like lizards and stuff. Fish don't even have tounges how creepy is that.

maybe it is black cause the spend much of thier time so high in the air.

It's because giraffes eat a LOT of licorice.

OK, I lied. One theory is that the giraffe's tongue has evolved to be black to avoid it getting sun-burned, since it is moist and sticking out much of the time this might be a problem.

When I was small, we could feed the giraffes at our local zoo. I remember those tongues! They weren't black, but a deep purple.

this should not be in botany....zoology yes, but botany no!...good luck getting answers!....but ill try....giraffes tongues are black bc of evolution (this does not mean it was evolutionarily favored for the giraffe to have a black tongue-just that it was passed along to more offspring than non-black tongues genes) and has been selected for (or developed along with a linked gene that was selected for). so it may or may not be beneficial to the giraffe to have a black tongue and may or may not be for eating specific leaves/food. koalas are marsupials and giraffes are mammels...so i dont think they are as closely related as you think...hope that help
