I've known this girl for sometime because of school and just recently we've spent time studying together but we have a similar crowd of friends. I managed to ask her if she would like to have dinner with me, she did not say yes directly or no either but pause to think of what days would be good for her. I wanted to bring her something on the first date but don't know what. Is this even a first date? What should I get her? Should I even get her anything? Thanks.

Find out her favorite rose and buy her one. Then, be a perfect gentleman for the evening - open doors, etc.

Don't blow your wad (I mean that mostly figuratively). If you show up with jewelry, then you won't have any way to top it. If you bring anything at all, bring a (1) flower. Not a bouquet, and not a rose. Really, you're best off using that on a second date anyway, but if the date was a hard sell in the first place, it will show that you're considerate. Have fun, and good luck!

it depends on what you think the girl is like. it can seem a bit outdated or full-on to buy a gift for the first date, if you think she might be embrassed then maybe don't get anything.
maybe you could just offer to pay for dinner when the time comes?
if she's seeming unsure about coming on date then you don't want to scare her away by being too intense, so gift could be not such a great idea. keep it relaxed and friendly, don't wear a suit but make an effort. think about it just like you want to find out about her and get to know her, try not to think too much about where it's heading or worry about it too much.
good luck!

Sometimes getting a girl stuff...makes you look kind of desperate, like you NEED her to like you...but buying her stuff. Some girls won't take well to it. They'll act like it's fine, but they're really thinking 'Why is he doing this?'. If you got her ANYTHING at ALL...maybe a couple flowers...probably not roses though. Those are a bit romantic.

Don't bring her anything. Take her on the date and pay. Otherwise you will look desperate or scare her off. Save the gifts for when you become boyfriend & girlfriend.
