I am still fairly new to Wicca. I have read a few books but still have more on my reading list. I am not quite comfortable performing ritual right now but would still like to celebrate Samhain this year. Are there any alternatives to ritual or other ways I can celebrate?

Thank you everyone for your awesome answers. There are some really great ideas here. However, I'm finding it really hard to choose only one as best answer so I'm forced to put this question up for vote.

Thanks again.

We all do rituals every day mostly without thinking about them. Do you prepare for work/school the same basic way each day? When you return home, do you walk into the same door and through the same rooms every day in a pattern? When you prepare for bed, do you usually do the same basic things in order? These are rituals. A ritual doesn't need to be formal. It can be anything that is repeatedly done. Since you don't have any specific patterns, this will be the first ritual. You can (and probably will) change it each year until you find something that suits you. You can light a candle, remember a loved one who has passed, prepare a garden for winter, feast on seasonal foods, or write a simple prayer to say before bed. As a Neo-Wiccan, you have the freedom to adopt and adapt the elements (as many or as little) that are comfortable for you. No formal rituals are necessary.

Do a lot of baking - search the internet for Samhain recipes, there are loads! If you've lost any family members or friends have pictures of them about the house for Samhain. Oh and maybe make a start on your Book of Shadows with some of those recipes! Have some black candles (or/and orange) burning too.
Have fun, I love Samhain!!!!

I know how you feel on the ritual side of things. I have been learning and practicing my path for over ten years and I still don't like long rituals. I personally feel you get lost in them and forget the initial reason for doing them. Light a few cnadles and meditate or sit silently, thinking about your deceased loved ones and of the God who has died. Then reflect on the thought that he will be reborn at Yule.

Have a silent supper for yourself. Set out a plate of food for your loved ones. The silence will help you listen to see if your loved ones have any special messages for you.
