We just found out earlier today that our black lab just had a puppy we want to know if there are more but we dont see or hear any we just see that one thats under her. She's running around and playing as usual and when she was pregnant her belly was big now its not.....Is it possible for her to just have one since she's had 2 previous litter's? Also my dad thinks she has maines whichis a type of dog disease is it safe for the puppy to be around her?

It depends on the kind of mange she has. One type is very contagious to dogs and the other is genetic. If she has the contagious kind, you need to consult your vet on what to do about treating her and preventing the pups from getting it. If she has the genetic kind, it's not contagious, but it can be passed on the any litters automatically. If it's the genetic kind, you should NOT be breeding this dog as she will likely pass it to her offspring. My friends dog has the genetic kind and it's terrible for him and very costly to properly manage.

Does she have Mange? Some types are contagius and wouldn't be good for a newborn puppy to get. A dog that large should have more than 1 puppy- could she have moved and hidden some? I would take her to the vet. If something is wrong and she still has puppies inside her that are stuck or dead she could get very sick or die. At the very least call your vet A.S.A.P Good luck

mainge is a hereditary disease, all you can do for that is just treat it. your vet can supply you with everything you need to treat it properly and yes it is possible to have only one puppy. I bought and blue pitbull that came from a litter of 2. Just watch her over the nex hour, hour and a half normally they drop one every 30min to an hour and half depending on the dog. Playing wiht her is good to it induces the labor just like women.

sometimes a mother will eat her litter if they are sick or she doesn't want them she may have had only one . and she ate the other one.; Mange is contagious . the puppy should not be with the mother. and the mother needs treatment .the puppy needs to eat so it is best the mother is taken to the vet for such treatment so the puppy will be able to be with its mother,

Mange? Yes its very contagious, I would get mom and baby to the vet asap, dogs can just have one pup, but its very unusual in larger dogs, especially if they have had past litters

canines usually have better than one puppy whilst they provide beginning; despite the fact that, it would be smart to convey the Lab to a vet purely for a examine-up. they sometimes want one after giving beginning besides.
