Whereas if they studied the Holy Scriptures, they would see that the Lord God delivered His chosen people out of slavery while in the land of Egypt.

Maybe it's because parts of the Bible read like a guide for owning slaves. It explains when to beat them and how long you get to have them. Hmm...

Actually, I've studied the Holy Scriptures, and God does condone slavery. Yes, he delivered the Israelites out slavery in Egypt, but let's not forget the 10th commandment in which God warns people not to covet anything of their neighbor's, including male and female slaves.

Of course, that could be taken to say that God was merely warning to not be tempted into buying slaves, so let me find you an even better passage. I've got lots to choose from.

Actually, right after the listing of the Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy, there's a chapter dealing with slavery. Deuteronomy 21:1-11, The Law Concerning Slaves. The whole passage there is dealing with buying male Hebrew slaves and when men sell their daughters into slavery. What is that if not condoning slavery?

This was after God took the Israelites out of slavery. If God didn't condone slavery, then why was it that after delivering the Ten Commandments, there were laws given to the Israelites about buying and selling and the treatment of slaves?

I think it's because they feel that God only objected to the Israelites being slaves--not to slavery in general. I don't know the Bible well enough to say if I believe that or not, though.

because in biblical times, slavery WAS condoned. the bible never forbids it, ever. it just gives rules about it.

because the Bible does. Do a simple search online.

Of course you will find opposing viewpoints. But it's the Bible, what do you expect?
