best way is make a frame using 3"x2" (crs) wood lengths depend on the height of you ceiling.
make the gaps between the vertical lengths about every 60mm, apart from the last piece which you'll work out.
1200x2400mm sheets of plasterboard 9mm or 12mm(recommended).
for the wood 3" and 4" round wire nails or screws
plasterboard use 32mm galvanised nails or 32mm plasterboard screws(dry wall screws).(recommended
for the joints on the plasterboard use self adhesive scrim tape.
once the tapes on the joints, buy ready mix joining compound. dont try and cover the tape in one hit apply 1st let dry then apple 2nd coat feathering it out.
let dry and sand to a smooth finish.
then paint

Buy a sliding door kit to suit the width of your room. Doors are made of coated hardboard or you can have mirror doors. The mirrors will make one of your rooms look much larger. Instructions come with kit but you only have to screw 1 track to the ceiling and 1 to the floor, fit frame around each door then fit into track. Eeeeeeezeeeeee!

A bookcase open on both sides is great, but you could also consider something as simple as a console table with a lamp and a chair, rather like a desk, and even as a dining spot.

If you have sufficient light, a large plant or two could also work.

Make a partition wall with a wooden frame and plasterboard,it's relatively cheap and can be removed without too much difficulty. It's more permanent than a curtain or a screen on wheels.

Visit your local IKEA and purchase a blind. The kind that ladies of the night get undressed behind. You can stretch this across the room, et voila! Bobs your auntie!

i saw on a show one time, a guy had movable walls or separators, that way he could move the wall wherever and whenever he pleased. or another idea was to install tracks on the ceiling, install a separator, then you could close it whenever you wanted or leave it open.
