If someone reports you to them for say, being a bad parent, what do they actually do? Do they take all reports as being 100% true, or do they have to investigate?

I ask because my dad who is nuts and warped has threatened to contact social services, because he thinks that I won't let him see my kids (I will, but was busy on the two times he asked). I'm not worried at all, because I know I'm a good mum, but I don't know what their policies are, and I'd hate for my children to be assigned social workers, on the basis of spiteful rubbish.

As other people have said, social services would get in touch with you and want to see/talk to the children. Unless they found something badly wrong they wouldn't take it any further.
If the kids are fine you have nothing to worry about.
Your dad has no legal right to see the kids anyway, so I don't know what he thinks he's doing. He clearly hasn't realised that YOU have the right to decide who sees your kids, not him.
Don't let him bully you!
And don't let him undermine your confidence in your parenting ability. He should be ashamed of his own parenting, trying to blackmail you like this.

Social Services would normally contact you by letter and arrange to meet you. They can also meet your children at school and talk to the school if they have serious concerns.

Generally they will investigate and make a decision based on the information and any risk posed to children. They will then decide whether they need to intervene and at what level.

There is a notion that social services want to take children away, however they do want to offer the support that they can to make sure children are well looked after. Although as a parent I can imagine that it does not feel like this at all. The best advice you could get would be to ring the duty social worker to discuss the situation but not give them your contact details.

They will be able to sort out spiteful trash from the truth!!!!

Hope everything goes well :)

They will investigate, Usually, it consists of coming to your home and speaking with you and perhaps your children. Depending on the childrens age, they may talk to them in school. If they find no basis for the complaint a case will not be opened. If you have done nothing wrong don't worry.

It depends on how severe they consider the charges. If they think that the reporter is a crackpot, they may not investigate at all. If it's really minor they may just call you without opening a file. Or they may come out and research the whole thing, and keep an open file on you. It all depends...

It happened to someone I know. This woman in the neighborhood didn't like her. SS came and checked her out. They had an open file and checked up on her a few more times. They kept the file open for 6 mths. It's just a totally degrading thing to happen if you are a good parent.

Under the law you are innocent until proven guilty. With CPS you are guilty until proven innocent. One time my wife was watching seven kids and one got out of the gate they where all over her. She did not lose her Daycare license but she can not adopt any kids just because there is a investigation in her file..

They may visit you and ask questions but dont worry as you are innocent nothing will happen.

My ex (who has also lost the plot) reported my partner for abusing my kids. SS came round and realised what was going on, that my ex had a serious case of sour grapes etc and left it at that.
