All though we may not be on the same side of 'teams', I agree with you! They are real! Just because you can not see them in the natural, does not mean they are not real! May God Bless you!

there may be some truth in legends, but before there was the written word information was shared by word of mouth. So just imagine a huge telephone game involving a whole city or even a whole continent. You can easily see how things may be misconstrued in the telling, or if there is an embellisher who shares the story to someone who believes it, things could get out of hand.
However, there is a website that researches into legends, old wives tales and anything else you could possibly think of to discover the origins of things. That website is www.snopes.com and you can find out so many things and whether they are fact or fiction. I suggest taking a look at it

Myths and mythology usually have some base in fact. The whole legend is another thing...a lot of misinformation can have gathered around the core. i.e. a pearl begins with a single piece of sand.

What does proof mean? If the legend proved it, it would no longer be a legend; it would be a fact. Consult the dictionary for definitions of "legend" and "proof."

that's not proof; proof stands up to scrutiny.
legends are circumstantial evidence at best.
It is proof that common themes have emerged among differing cultures. But if 10 cultures around the world believed the world was flat, that didn't make it so.

Proof? That's a very big word.
we have yet to find any EVIDENCE, let alone PROOF for a four legged flying reptile(?) that could breath fire.
Atlantis?
The fountains of eternal youth?
El Dorado?
All legends, no evidence.
