This is an excellent question. All the other answers are good but the best way to determine how much wallpaper you will need is by determing the "repeat" of "pattern run" or the paper. This means how often the pattern repeats itself. You will never truly know how much paper you will need until you figure this out. When wallpapering you want to line up the pattern on the walls so you can't see where the seams are. The result is extra, wasted paper but a great looking wall with hidden seams. Rolls with repeating patterns will indicate this on the roll or on the back of the paper sample in wallpaper books. Once you know the repeat, then you can determine how much paper you need to do a room. Of course, you will need the measurements of the room and the height of the ceiling. You need to treat doors and windows as if they were a wall to make sure you have enough paper. Good luck!

Proper name is 'drops'. Reckon on 4 to a roll. To measure how much you need the easy way: see if you can borrow roll of paper someone has finished with. Hold roll to wall (start in corner of first wall) then mark width with pencil. Go around all the walls this way. Count how many widths you have marked and divide it by 4. So if there are 20 widths, you need 20 divided by 4 = 5 rolls. When you purchase the paper make sure each roll has the same numbers printed on the label or you may get a slightly different shade. Buy an extra roll just in case you waste any but if you do not open it (not needed) many shops will let you return it. Don't forget the wallpaper paste!

Usually 3 to 4 drops per roll depending on the pattern and the height from skirting to ceiling.

To work out the number of rolls required you must measure the distance around the room ( including windows and doors ) and the height from skirting to ceiling.
Armed with this information you go to your local DIY store and there should be a chart in the wallpaper section which tells you how many rolls to buy, it's as simple as that. All you have to do now is choose the paper !!!!

Usually you can fit about four or five strips of wallpaper from a roll onto your wall. In very simple terms, if you hold the width of the roll of wall paper up to the wall, at a starting point, and work your way round your room; count how many times the width of the roll fits. For example, if the roll fits 20 times around the whole of your room, then you will need five rolls of wallpaper. Always get one extra roll of wallpaper to allow for mistakes. Any rolls you dont use, you can take back to the shop. Dont put too much paste on the wall paper, but do make sure that you completely cover it. Use very sharp scissors to cut the edges as a stanley knife will tend to tear it. Place your pasted wallpaper strip into the crevices then CAREFULLY use your finger nail to make a crease, you then pull the wallpaper back and cut along the crease. Good luck. Hope you have a great result. :o)

A lot depends on the thickness of the paper, the height of your walls, and especially the pattern-match on the paper but normally you should get 4/ 5 full strips to a roll of plain paper, but only three if the pattern-match is large. All papers are a standard width, so get a full-width sample and go round the room measuring off the number of widths as you go. Don't try to make guesses for the windows and doors - treat them as walls, papers are cheap enough, and if you buy from one of the big DIY supermarkets they will take back any unopened rolls and refund the price. Good luck!

Those are good answers and there is normally 72 square feet in a double roll which is the most common way of purchasing wallpaper. It also comes in "lots" so you try to match the lot numbers when you do your purchase for color match. Normally on the outside of the package the distance between the repeat is written.

Height X length of each wall added together will give you your square footage. Divide that by the the square footage of one roll you are purchasing and it will give you your total number of rolls needed. Do not under estimate. And as was said, forget about doors windows or openings unless you are missing most of a wall!

Depends on the height of the room and the pattern on the paper, I usually reckon on 3 with a bit left over.

An easy method is to calculate the area by measuring the perimeter and multiplying it by the height of the room. A roll of wallpaper will cover approximately 5m2 so divide by five to calculate the number of rolls you will need

measure each wall, multiply length and heigth, add together. This will give the total area, then measure the openings(windows-doors-etc.) again multipy width X heigth, add these all together and subtract from the total area. Take this figure with you when shopping for coverings, each roll or Pkg will have a "aproximate coverage" figure.Get as close as you can to your figure, plus a little extra for cut-outs
