Hii!

I'm a new homeowner - 22 - and am trying to get everything that I need for my home. I want to make sure that I have the essentials for the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms. I've been making lists, and then when I go into a store I feel overwhelmed and walk out with almost nothing. I have bedroom furniture and will be purchasing living room furniture as well as a kitchen table this coming weekend. It's the "small" things that I'm clueless on. So far I have purchased a vacuum, cutting board, cutlery, dinnerware, flatware, paper towel holder, floor lamp, toaster, microwave, blender, and I even started making a list of things I believe that I need. Any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated!!

Lots of times friends and family donate mildly used items to get you started. Have you asked for help from them? Sometimes when we get overwhelmed, it's easier having someone go with us while we shop, is the way to do it.Good luck to you and Congratulations!

No matter how extensive of a list you might make, you'll probably forget something! Get your basics and then just start living in it. People and families don't always start out their "homes" with everything at their fingertips. Finding these things out and figuring out how to use them and deal with these issues is all part of your lifes experience. Purchasing a home is usually the single largest investment anyone will make in their life. Don't rush it. Live your life and you'll accumulate so much 'crap' by the time you move into your next house, you won't even know where the stuff came from! Best of luck to you and enjoy your new home!

You're right about the little things.

can opener
bucket for cleaning
garbage cans for your rooms
broom/mop
felt or something for the bottom of your furniture, so it doesn't scratch the floors
Curtain/drapery hardware
bathroom essentials (toothbrush holder, bath mat, etc).
container/organizer for cutlery, for kitchen drawers.
Good knives
meashuring cups
Spice rack - if you like to cook.
Bedding
pillows
towels, for bath, kitchen, etc.
Laundry hamper
shovel
lawn mower
pots and pans.
cups and glasses
shower curtains

The list goes on.

Look around your home, think of the things you would be using, write it down on paper. When you think you've come to a block get what you wrote down. Then when the items strat coming to you as you're going through your day write them down and get them.

What I did was walk up and down the aisles and looked at everything and asked myself if I would need it, If I did I bought it
