Your fiance's daughter is going to be your daughter soon, why not give her something she could wear in the wedding? a nice pair of earrings or a necklace. A locket with something enscribed on it would be nice too, make sure the message is something personal, like how much you love her. When I married my husband I bought his daughters (he has 2) each a pair of saphire earrings in the shape of daisies (one was pink saphire the other was yellow spahire). inside the box I wrote them each a letter explaining how important they both were to me.

$15-20 is a good idea, but so are gift cards, movie passes, etc.

It depends on what she likes. If she likes animals, maybe take her on an outing to the zoo or something and just have fun together. Or if she likes crafts give her yarn and some knitting needles... I got that when I was 16 and I love it. And you know what, classic stuff like bubbles and hula hoops and kites are always fun too. Even if they seem like they might be too juvenile, they're really fun.

I guess this would really depend on your financial status and previous gifts that you may have given her. I would say average is $20 to $40 but with it being her 16th birthday, which is suppose to be a little more significant, maybe $50. If you don't really want to do money and she is into girly stuff, maybe prepay for a day at a salon where she can get a manicure or pedicure.

Most teenagers love gift certificates/gift cards to iTunes (even if they don't own an iPod). The appropriate amount of moneyto give will vary largely based on socioeconomic status, but a common amount for middle-class families is about a $20-$30 gift certificate.

iTunes makes gift certificates available both as cards you can purchase at stores like Safeway, and also as online gift certificates deliverable by email (available on the Apple website).

One fun thing you might want to do with her as a birthday gift is a "spa day." Take her for a manicure and pedicure or a massage. Then go have lunch. It would be a great opportunity to bond with her while celebrating being 16.

How about this:
16 $20 bills to use for shopping at the mall
16 $1 bills she can use to buy herself and a girlfriend lunch
16 quarters to get to the mall on the bus

Yes--don't be cheap. I think $50.00 is good. You really can't purchase much for less than that anyway. You could find out what her favorite perfume is too and give her that but, definitely include her Mother in this decision so no goofy ideas are gotten about your relationship with her. It's just that good perfumes are expensive today and alot of times a girl will wait to get some from someone else before spending her own money for it.

16 singles, or 5's or 10's

I would give her $40 . My daughter just turned 16 and this was a way to give her the option of spending it on what she chose to.
