First year for disc brakes and last year for the type 1 motor. There are more smaller things, but those are the two most important that make the 71 one of the most popular years for the bay buses. As well it has the early bay bumpers and tail lights. Not really sure what kind of details your really looking for, but I have one and it's a good year.

wonderfull car/ van. lots of space ,you could beat a snail uphill, good visibility, the steering took a beating over time 'though
