For all prior service personnel, hi, i am recently out of the navy for prt (physical readiness test)failure, which means I failed the run portion of the test. However I was given an Honorable discharge but an RE-4 code. I would like to join the coast guard, but I'm not sure if they would take me with this code. Is it possible they will. I've never had any njp's or been to captain's mast. Serious answers please and don't tell me to speak with a recruiter about it.

The navy is downsizing. They now have it that if you fail the prt within a four year period you get admin separated. That was me; however, i didnt fail it in four years. i didnt even hit my four year mark when it was time for them to separate me. i failed it three times.

If you really do not merit a RE4, you should go immediately to the nearest base and get some Navy legal counsel. You might have to go to JAG.

Current Navy PRT policy says that three failures in a four year period is an automatic AdSep. As soon as you get your third failure, they begin the AdSep process.

Coast Guard physical fitness requirements at time of entry are harder than the Navy by quite a bit. If you're going to talk to the Guard, deal with your inability to pass the run first.

I know that in the past RE-4 codes have been waived for the Navy. I have no idea how the Guard will look at it.

You might also consider small water craft operator in the Army.

With an RE-4 code no military branch will take you, not the Coast Guard, Air Force, Army, Marines or the Navy. The Coast Guard is not hurting for recruits at all.

RE-4 means not eligible for re-enlistment...I'm pretty sure you have to have the same physical testing for the CG as you do the navy, and if you failed one, the other probably won't take you based on that.

They most likely will. The coast guard's physical requirements aren't as high, and they are no longer part of the DOD, they are homeland security, so I'm sure as long as you make their requirements you should get in. You may not even have to attend coast guard training since you were in the navy.

I am curently a recruiter and hate to tell you but you were screwed! An RE-4 is a permanent disqualification from all branches of service and they won't even consider a waiver for it.

re-4 is called the re-enlistment code, 4 means that you can not reenter service without "Special Waivers". In your case one of the conditions for the waiver, would be that you can now meet all physical requirements.

They are hurting for people right now. If you can pass the test now then go see the recruiter. Nothing personal but sounds odd to me that they would kick you out for that one reason.

RE-4 for just the run part? Are you sure obesity wasn't also part of the problem? What was your body-fat?

Means that you are unsuitable....there are no waivers. Sorry.
Hope this helps!
