ignore it and walk away or get over it, there is no rule saying that just because you have to work with someone that you have to be nice to them or be friends with them.

I *think* I understand what you are trying to ask. My advice is to either be direct or say nothing at all. You can't resolve a problem by speaking in riddles or being cryptic because the person can continue playing "dumb" as you put it.

The next time the person is rude with you, simply ask them, "Why do you always do that?" When they say, "What?" Tell them what they are doing and exactly how they are doing it that is frustrating you. Tell them you hadn't said anything until this point because you didn't want to be petty. By you putting them on the spot and putting their bad behavior on notice, they can no longer play ignorant.

If they continue after that, either you have to ignore the person/avoid the behavior or take the matter to a higher level. You don't have to like your co-workers or socialize with them. If you have to interact with this rude individual, keep it short and to the point. Don't worry about "niceties." Get what you need and move on.

My advice is just to ignore this person. People who gossip like that crave attention and getting a rise out of others, so you'd totally defeat her if you don't give her the satisfaction of knowing that you care.

Don't say anythin confrontational to your coworkers or gossip about them. If you gossip you will be just as rude as the person you are complaining about.

Gossiping behind their back is the most effective. The more vicious the gossip, the better.
